The Caipirinha is a refreshing Brazilian cocktail that is perfect for a warm evening, made from only three ingredients, so as we were cooking food churrasco style we thought it would be a shame not to give this traditional drink a Worlds Pantry BBQ twist.
Ingredients
60ml/2fl oz of Cachaça (a Brazilian white rum made from sugarcane)
Half a lime, cut into wedges
3 tbsp of unrefined cane sugar
Method
Take 2 tbsp of sugar and spread on a small plate, cut the lime into wedges, dip wedges in the sugar coating both sides. Place on a skewer and grill over the coals hot and fast to caramelise the sugar coating. Allow to cool, then take a glass and add the remaining sugar, drop in the wedges and muddle gently to release the juice and essential oils. Top with ice, add the Cachaça and stir well to mix the lime, sugar, and Cachaça together. Garnish with a lime wheel, if desired, and enjoy your homemade Caipirinha!
NOTE: If you don’t have Cachaça, you can replace it with a white rum of your choice and even add a splash of soda water to make a long drink. Just as long as it’s served with your churrasco feast.
