Uncle Hon’s BBQ celebrates the World Cup with a series of screening parties

Uncle Hon’s BBQ, a new barbecue restaurant in London’s Hackney Wick, is hosting a series of live England World Cup screenings this month. For each match, the kitchen will smoke a signature dish from the opposing nation’s cuisine and offer spectators the opportunity to preview the new restaurant before it officially opens in July.
The restaurant is a new venture by Man Hon Luk (also known as Hon), who before entering the food world, was a well-known figure in East London’s underground music scene and founder of second-hand record shop Vinyl Pimp. In 2021, Hon trained in Texas BBQ in London, refining his skills to blend traditional Texan techniques with Asian flavours, inspired by his roots in Hong Kong.
To celebrate the World Cup, supporters are invited to Uncle Hon’s BBQ to watch the matches live on a 150-inch screen and enjoy street food style barbecue on communal tables. The opposing nation of each match serves as the inspiration for the menu. Each dish will be served with rice, salad and pickles, and includes Ćevapi, a grilled minced beef and pork dish served for the England vs Croatia match on 17th June; Kyinkyinga, a grilled meat, onion and pepper skewer coated in a traditional spice mix which for England vs Ghana on 23rd June; and Carne en Palito, grilled tender beef strips marinated in orange juice, garlic and achiote for the England vs Panama game on 27th June.
Doors will open from 5pm on each game day for pre-match drinks, and supporters can stay behind after the final whistle and soak up the atmosphere with DJs and dancing.
