VE Day Commemorative Beer

Supplying quality meat is not the only thing that occupies independent butchers as people ready their grills for warmer days. Award-winning Alf Turner butchers in Aldershot, Hampshire, has collaborated with the nearby Hogs Back Brewery to commemorate VE Day with a limited-edition beer. Sales of the Hero IPA, which launched this week, will help raise money for Help for Heroes.

Paul Turner, the third-generation butcher and managing director, is no stranger to Help for Heroes. Since 2010, the family-run company has worked to raise more than £300,000. Donations from sales of its award-winning beer sausages, scotch eggs charged with chilli sauce, and its iconic beer-companioning pork scratchings have gone towards the charity.

“It’s a way to celebrate and give back,” says Paul, whose grandfather Alf set up the business in 1956, after serving almost 20 years in the military and during WW2.

Paul’s ideal BBQ pairing with the new Hero IPA would be either a great steak or burger, enjoyed while sitting outside in the sun. Cheers!
