Black Deer Festival, having survived two pandemic-forced cancellations, returns bigger and better than ever in 2022, and alongside the music, the festival, running from 17-19 June at Eridge Park, Kent, will be a celebration of live-fire cooking, with BBQ magazine a media partner.

The music line-up will feature the likes of Van Morrison, Foy Vance, Wilco and Imelda May. While much of the inspiration behind the food at Black Deer hails from the United States, the produce is ethically sourced and resolutely British. Expect to be transported to the smokehouses of America’s Deep South, with chefs cooking slow and low in custom-made smokers, serving ribs, pulled meats, brisket, rotisserie chicken, smoky scents and sweet sauces.

Jon Finch, one of the leading live-fire chefs in the country, will be curating the cooking, alongside his Grillstock co-founder Ben Merrington.

Others stars of flame and grill confirmed for the Festival include the Hang Fire girls, Sam Evans and Shauna Guinn (above); Matt Burgess, group executive chief of Caravan Restaurants; BBQ magazine’s very own Marcus Bawdon of CountryWoodSmoke; live fire expert and author Genevieve Taylor; Joe Formisano, founder of DeliVita wood-fired ovens; Cai ap Bryn, director of Games and Flames; Nick Weston of Hunter Gather Cook; Weber grill masters Dan Cooper and Gyles Foster; and charcoal king Matt Williams of  Whittle & Flame.
